Why does water form a spherical shape on wax paper instead of spreading out flat??

The water forms a spherical shape on wax paper instead of spreading out flat because of surface tension. The water molecules are attracted by the surface tension in an inward manner that is why it does not spread out. The reason why water is in spherical shape because the water has a greater attraction towards itself than the wax paper.
