A certain jet is capable of steady 9°45' climb. How much altitude in feet (5280 feet in mile) does the jet gain when it moves 4 miles in the air. Round to nearest Tenth.

we have that

9° 45' -----> convert to degrees

45'=45/60=0.75 degrees

so

9° 45'=9.75°

so

9.75° is the angle of elevation

4 miles is the hypotenuse

x is the altitude

so

sin(9.75°)=x/4

solve for x

x=4*sin(9.75°)

x=0.6774 miles

Convert to feet

remember that

5280 feet =1 mile

therefore

0.6774 miles=0.6774*5280=3,576.7 ft

answer is 3,576.7 feet
