When Lucius says the conspirators’ “hats are plucked about their ears.” What is he suggesting?

Their hats are worn in an unusual style, with feathers above the ears to identify them to other conspirators.

Their hats are pulled low to conceal their faces.

He is speaking metaphorically, comparing their cowardice to plucked chickens.

The material has been removed from their hats around the sides as a visible sign of their punishment.

I'm guessing B, just by how he responds by saying to Brutus "their hats are plucked behind their ears" when Brutus asks if he knows them
