Dividing by
2^x gives:

(2^y)/(2^x) = 4

Using basic rules of exponents, we have:

2^(y-x) = 4

Taking the logarithm with base two gives:

y-x = 2

Then, adding
x-2 to both sides gives:

x=y-2
