The Justinian Code was important because it simplified and streamlined centuries of existing Roman laws and Justinian's own laws and into one system. Four sections made up the code, and these were the Codex Constitutionum, Digesta, Institutiones and the Novellae Constitutiones Post Codicem.

Justinian's Code was a compilation of imperial laws promulgated by Emperor Justinian, in a first version, on April 7, 529, and in a second, on November 17, 534.

Justinian's Code consecrated the system of Roman law, defining its durability in history and in the legal field. This work is considered as a legal anthology, as a collection of ancient writers in which the best of Roman jurisprudence is condensed.

The first objective of the Code was to give the people a practical legal code; and the second, to preserve classic Roman jurisprudence.
