Explain the process by which microwaves work to heat food.

Answer: Microwave technology cooks food by heating surface water or fat molecules only, and the remaining food is cooked by conduction.

Microwaves heat food much like the sun heats your face- radiation. The heat waves on the inside of the microwave bounce back and forth off the surface of the container your food is in. Sort of like a mirror. The waves penetrate through the food and heat it from the inside out. :)
