First of All, France invested in gold instead of stocks, which was a good choices as gold was a safe invesment against the early effects of Great Depression. It was during the 1930s when France started to have severe problems with unemployment and production got stucked unlike other European countries which faced problems since the 1920s. This is why France's process of overcoming the Great Depression came a across with the beginning of Wolrd War II when Germany attacked Poland, France's ally, and conducted a not completely recovered country into war.
