Answer: C)
e=40000+200* c

Explanation:

Given: A car salesman's total earnings 'e' is a base salary plus a commission.

The salesman has a base salary = $40,000

Commission on every car he sells= $200

Let 'c' be the number of cars, then the total amount he earn as commission is given by expression :-

200* c

Now, Total cost earnings = Base salary + Total Commission

\Rightarrow e=40000+200* c

Hence, the equation represents the total earnings for the salesman will be :-

e=40000+200* c

The equation that best represents the total earnings for the salesman is letter c which is e=40,000+200 x c
It is because in order to get the total earnings, you have to add the base salary to the commission that the salesman receives. Whereas, the $40,000 is added to the commission where the $200 is multiplied to c (every car the salesman sells).
