Find the mean

Sum all the values and divide by the number of values


[135+160+145+155+170+150+142]/7=1,057/7=151

step 2

Determine the absolute value of subtract the mean from each value


\left|135-151\right|=16


\left|160-151\right|=9


\left|145-151\right|=6


\left|155-151\right|=4


\left|170-151\right|=19


\left|150-151\right|=1


\left|142-151\right|=9

step 3

Find the mean of those distances


[16+9+6+4+19+1+9]/7=64/7=9.1 ----> this number is called the mean absolute deviation (MAD)
