The man ignored moving ahead in the freezing cold instead of making camp or not going at all. Hope this helps.

The story "To Build a Fire" is a short story published by American author Jack London. The story describes a man who ventures out into the cold in a forest of the Yukon Territory. He does so in order to visit his friends. However, the man gets in trouble for ignoring the advice of not hiking alone in the extreme cold. The man is able to build a fire, but as he keeps moving, he eventually dies of hypothermia.
