solve for x in first
x-y=3
x=y+3
sub y+3 for x in other

(y+3)+2y=-6
y+3+2y=-6
3y+3=-6
minus 3 both sides
3y=-9
divide by 3
y=-3

sub back

x=y+3
x=-3+3
x=0
