It’s all down to the final votes. To win a presidential election, a candidate needs at least 270 votes from the Electoral College. In 2000, the election was so close that whichever candidate won Florida (and its 25 electoral votes) would reach 270 votes and win the presidency.

Florida had 25 electoral votes, and it would determine the winner of the presidency.
