x+y = 9 so x = 9 -y
xy = 14

replace x = 9 -y into xy = 14
xy = 14
y(9 -y) = 14
-y^2 + 9y = 14
y^2 - 9y + 14 = 0
(y -7)(y-2) = 0
y - 7 = 0; y = 7
y - 2 = 0; y = 2
answer: integers are 2 and 7
