The three types of chemical bonds are Ionic bonds, Covalent bonds, and Polar covalent bonds. Chemists also recognize hydrogen bonds as a fourth form of chemical bond, though their properties align closely with the other types of bonds.

Two general types of bonds form during chemical reactions: ionic and covalent. Ionic bonds form when the outermost, or valence, electrons of an atom are donated or received in association with a second atom. ... The resulting molecule has properties different from the original atoms.
