The tribes settled into a society similar to that in the old south because they did something similar to what the old south people did. It was they formed strong family ties with the members of the tribe, they respected their form of government and the elders, and they owned slaves, in a similarity of what happened in the south.

So during the Civil Waer, some of these tribes sympathized with the Confederated cause under the promise of respecting their lands. Many of these Native American tribes had many settlement issues with white Americans from the North and allying with the Confederates represented an opportunity for retribution.

Tribes settled in a society when they tried to migrate to a different place.  Or they might have been displaced from their homes because of the developments that happened in their area. Their leaders also wanted to have better protection for the families of their tribe which they can get from a more organized system.
