A lot of elements got their names in acknowledgment of scientists, or based on their colors or characteristics. Just a few examples include:
Mendelevium. Md. It got its name after the Russian chemist, Dmitri "Mendeleev," who organized the first periodic table of elements in 1869.
Chlorine. Cl. Its name was derived from the Greek word "Khloros," which means greenish - yellow, because of Chlorine's greenish yellow color.
Hope this helps. Good luck! :)
