The sensation of a frequency is commonly referred to as the pitch of a sound. A high pitch sound corresponds to a high frequency sound wave and a low pitch sound corresponds to a low frequency sound wave. ... Such sound waves form the basis of intervals in music.

The higher the frequency of a sound wave (shorter distance between waves), the higher the pitch of the sound. The lower the frequency (longer distance between waves), the lower the pitch of the sound.
