The main objective of the Paris Peace Conference depended on whom you asked. American president Woodrow Wilson wanted it to be about ensuring an end to international conflict. The leaders of Britain and France, however, wanted it to be about punishing Germany for the harm caused by the First World War. There was some of both that came out of the conference.

The Paris Peace Conference was held from Jan. 18, 1919 to Jan. 21, 1920, after the conclusion of The Great War (World War I). The Paris Peace Conference produced the Treaty of Versailles.

Major provisions of the Treaty of Versailles were these:

1. The "war guilt" clause. Germany was forced to accept responsibility for causing the Great War, and was required to pay reparations to the Allies.

2. Germany had to give up large portions of its territory and lost colonial territories.

3. The German military had major restrictions imposed on it -- it had to be a volunteer military only, of no more than 100,000 men, and they could not have an air force.

4. The League of Nations was created as an international organization to pursue peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
