to find the percent you have to find what amount is the sale for that you do
40-25=15
then you put that over the original
15/40
when you divide those you get 37.5%

%change=100(final-initial)/initial

%change=100(25-40)/40=-37.5%

So Denise received a discount of 37.5% off the regular price.
