1st number = x
2nd number = x+1
3rd number = x+ 2
4th number = x + 3
So x + x + 1 + x + 2 + x + 3 = 354
4x + 6 = 354
4x = 348
x = 87
The second number is 88

consecutive numbers are 1 apart
they are
x,x+1,x+2,x+3
the sum is 354
x+x+1+x+2+x+3=354
add like terms
4x+6=354
minus 6 both sides
4x=348
divide both sides by 4
x=87
x+1=88
x+2=89
x+3=90
the 2nd number is 88
