there was a total of 35 caterpillars 28 caterpillars became painted lady butterflies. how many caterpillars became monarch butterflies...... thus question is a graphic organizer .solve what i know,the question, steps to solve it and a paragraph to explain the solution. some help please.

I got the solution of 7 monarch butterflies. I got this by subtracting. I knew to subtract because it stated that there where only 35 butterflies and 28 were painted lady's, so to find the answer I couldn't add or there would be more then 35 butterflies.  I knew I couldn't multiply because again there would be to many. I knew not to divide because it didn't give me a precinct of faction, so all that was left was to divide.
