We want to solve for x.

We take numbers to one side and variables to another:

\begin{gathered} -(1)/(6)-(2)/(5)x=-2-(3)/(4)x \\ -(2)/(5)x+(3)/(4)x=-2+(1)/(6) \\ (-2(4)+3(5))/(5\cdot4)x=(-2(6)+1)/(6) \\ (-8+15)/(20)x=(-12+1)/(6) \\ (7)/(20)x=-(11)/(6) \end{gathered}

Now we isolate x by dividing both sides by (7/20). Remember dividing by a fraction means multiplying by its reciprocal. Thus,

\begin{gathered} x=(-(11)/(6))/((7)/(20)) \\ x=-(11)/(6)*(20)/(7) \\ x=-(110)/(21) \end{gathered}
