One lap around a track is equal to one-eighth of a mile. A horse ran a distance of 9 laps in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. What was the horses average speed in miles per minute

9/20

Explanation:

9 laps x (1/8) miles per lap = 9/8 miles

2min 30 sec = 2.5 min = 2 +1/2 min = 5/2 min ...so....

D /T = R

(9/8)miles / (5/2) min =

(9/8) x (2/5) = 18/40 = 9/20 miles per minute...

If 1 lap is equal to 1/8
so 9 laps would be
9*1/8 = 9/8 miles per minute
