Data

length = x + 7

width = x

Perimeter = 170 ft

area = ?

Perimeter = 2l + 2w

Substitution

170 = 2(x + 7) + 2(x)

Solve for x

170 = 2x + 14 + 2x

170 - 14 = 4x

156 = 4x

x = 156/4

x = 39

Calculate the area

area = (x)(x)

Substitution

area = (39)(39)

Result

area = 1521 ft^2
