A piece of stained glass in the shape of a right triangle has sides measuring 8cm, 17cm, 15cm. What is the area of the piece?

Since 17 is the longest side, the "legs" of the triangle are 8 and 15 cm respectively...the area of a triangle is:

A=bh/2 where b is base length and h is height length,

A=8*15/2

A=60 cm^2
