if you multiplied 2x3 you get the area of half of the whole figure. But to get the other portion I subtracted 4-3 and got 1, the I multiplied 5x1 and got 5. so the answer is 11in^2.

and area of the another triangle=
l{*}b=5{*}1=5 sq units

Therefore, Area of the irregular figure= Area of rectangle 1 + arae of rectangle 2

=
6+5=11 sq inches

Thus, area of the irregular figure= 11 sq inches.
