The answer is: " 975 girls " .

Step-by-step explanation:
___________________________________________________
What is 65% of 1500?
___________________________________________________
65/100 * 1500/1 = ? ;

The two "zeros" in "100" cancel out;
and the two "zeros" in "1500" cancel out;
____________________________________________________
And we are left with:
____________________________________________________
65/1 * 15/1 = 65 * 15 = 975 girls.
_____________________________________________________
OTHER METHOD:
_____________________________________________________
65% of 1500 = 65/100 * 1500 = 0.65 * 1500 = 975 girls.
_____________________________________________________
OTHER Method:
_____________________________________________________
65% of 1500 = 65/100 * 1500 ;

Note: 65/100 = (65÷5) / (100÷5) = 13/20;

13/20 * 1500 = 13/20 * 1500/1 = ? ;

The "zero" in "20" cancels out; and the last zero in "1500" cancels out;

and we have: 13/2 * 150/1 ;

The "2" cancels to a "1" ; and the "150" cancels to a "75";

and we have: 13/1 * 75/1 = 13 * 75 = 975 .
