The Treaty of Versailles said that Germany paid all reparations, Germany accepted the sole responsibility for WW1, and the Germany territory was reduced in size.
France made most of these terms in the Treaty of Versailles, and since they were afraid of Germany getting back up into power, they tried to push Germany down as much as possible: economically through the reparation payments, politically through Germany's responsibility of starting the war (they were trying to help Austria-Hungary), and Lorraine-Alsace was returned to France, which was loss of land. The reparation demands also gave Germany social problems, since there was a lack of food for the people in the country.
