How are elements arranged in the periodic table?

The periodic table arranges all of the known elements in an informative array. Elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number. Order generally coincides with increasing atomic mass.

the elements are arranged in horizontal rows, or periods, by order of increasing atomic number, which equals the number of protons in the atomic nucleus of each element.
