The expression 3x - 7y + 12y - 8x was rewritten as (3x - 8x) + (-7y + 12y) before it was simplified. Jasmine said that the expression was rewritten with the commutative property because the order of the terms was changed. Towsiful disagrees and said that it had to be rewritten using the associative property, since the like terms are now grouped together. Who is correct? Explain.

3x-7y+12y-8x

Grouping similar terms

(3x-8x)+(-7y+12y)

therefore:

Towsiful is right because grouping similar terms using associative property
