The correct answer is The Destructors.

"The Destructors" is supposed to depict the plight of modern man. It´s a 1954 short story written by Graham Greene about a gang of boys living in a destructed, bombed out London neighborhood after WWII. They are led by a boy from a different class and different neighborhood to utterly destroy the house of the “Old Misery”, the only house in the neighborhood to survive the Blitz intact.

As the gang’s pinching of bus rides illustrates, modern man is on a bus going nowhere.
