\displaystyle\\ x^2 - 7x - 34 = 10\\\\ x^2 - 7x - 34 -10=0\\\\ x^2 - 7x - 44 =0\\\\ x_(12)= (-b \pm √(b^2-4ac) )/(2a)= (7 \pm √(7^2-4\cdot1\cdot (-44)) )/(2\cdot 1)= \\\\ =(7\pm √(49+176))/(2)=(7\pm √(225))/(2)=(7\pm 15)/(2)\\\\ x_1 = (7 + 15)/(2)=(22)/(2) = \boxed{11}\\\\ x_2 =(7 - 15)/(2)=(-8)/(2) = \boxed{-4}
