Families moved from an agricultural setting to the city because of all the new jobs factories were creating.

The Industrial revolution transformed families profoundly. As the specialization of labor inside the factories took place, the lives of working-class families also experienced a division in distinctive roles. Work and home life grew clearly separated, as men were supposed to earn money for the family and women had to take care of the home and had their economic role decay.
