To rent a certain meeting room, a college charges a reservation fee of $ 37 and an additional fee of $ 9.70 per hour. The math club wants to spend less than $ 114.60 on renting the meeting room.

The answer is to use the meeting room for 8 hours. Set the problem into a equation. 37+9.70x=114.60 where x is the amount of hour.

So your equation would be 37 + 9.70x

114 - 37 would get you 77 dollars. Next, you have to find out how many times 9.70 goes into 77. They would be able to rent the room for a total number of 7 hours because that's how many times 9.70 can fit into 77 evenly.
