If your square has a measurement of sides x and you are cutting away 3 inches on each corner, your new side measurements are (x-6). To find the volume equation, you have (x-6)(x-6)x. Now do the math to get a cubic (which is what volume is!) The volume is x^3 - 12x^2 + 36x
