Ok since these uneducated fools want to fill your head with false information and things that make 0 sense I will tell you. Nothing prompted them to look for it, it was simply found.

Since Neptune is far out in the galaxy, the astronomers needed to discover in really hard equation of why Neptune is cold. So the astronomers attempted the discovery to look for Neptune.
