Treat it like an equation, you'll do a simple two-step rearrangement:
20+2x < 5x +17-3x -> 20+2x < 2x+17 -> 3+2x < 2x -> 3 < 0x. Now at this point in solving we run into a problem... nothing times 0 can be greater than 3, so this is undefined

2 Cancel 2x on both sides.

is false, there is no solution
