The size of a computer monitor is usually measured along the diagonal. An 18-in. rectangular monitor has a height of 9 in. What is the length of base of the monitor, to the nearest tenth of an inch?

Answer:

Length of the base of the moniter be 15.59 in .

Explanation:

By using the pythagorean theorem.

Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

As figure given in the question.

Hypotenuse = 18 in

Base = 9 in

Putting the values in the formula

Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

18² = 9² + Base²

324 - 81 = Base²

243 = Base²


Base = √(243)

Base = 15.59 in (Approx)

Therefore the length of the base of the moniter be 15.59 in .
