Misty is fencing her garden, which has the measurements shown below. The side that is 7.2 m long is against her house, so it does not need a fence. How much fencing material will she need to go around the rest of her garden?

In order to calculate the amount of material needed to fence the garden, we can calculate the perimeter of the garden.

The perimeter is the addition of all sides that conform a figure, then,

\begin{gathered} P=6.2m+4.2m+2.8m+3m+3.4m+7.2m \\ P=26.8m \end{gathered}

However, since the side against the house does not need fencing,

\begin{gathered} fence=P-7.2m \\ fence=26.8m-7.2m \\ fence=19.6m \end{gathered}

Answer:

there are 19.6m needed in order to fence the garden.
