You could say:

She spent 19/20 of an hour studying. I know this because 3/4=15/20 (3x5/4x5) and 1/5=4/20 (1x4/5x4). Then I added 15/20+4/20 and I got 19/20, my answer.

Step 1: find common denominators.

15/20 + 4/20

Step 2: add numerators.

19/20
