. In hindsight, it is clear that Jefferson was correct and the Missouri Compromise was only a "reprieve." What evidence was available in 1820 to support Jefferson's point of view; and what trends had already begun to emerge that would lead the intensification of the conflict over slavery in the decades to come?

The legislation on Missouri Compromise was used separate the slave and free state. It was only a reprieve because if the Congress would decide for an abolition of slavery it should have been done already. The 1820s was the rise of heated debates and struggle of slavery. The Missouri Compromised helped made the delay on intensified problems that may arise by those who wanted the abolition of slavery and those who want to maintain slavery.
