Bret took a test in which 2points were earned correct response and -1/2 point was earned for each incorrect response. He answered 35 questions correctly and 15 questions incorrectly so his total number of points was 35(2) + [-1/2(15)]. Which is another way to write Brett's total number of points on the test?

Given the following expression:

35(2)+\lbrack(-(1)/(2))(15)\rbrack

we can solve both products to get:

70+(-(15)/(2))=70-7.5

thus, another way to write Brett's total number of points on the test is 70-7.5
