The answer is: 1) In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud.

In writing, obstacles refers to all factors that become a hindrance for a certain character in obtaining his/her goals. From choice 1, we know that the characters is experiencing obstacle when that character fell and physically injured. The character showed sign of bravery by not crying out loud or complaining, while other people might do so in similar situation.
