Heath wants 10L of a solution that is 90% bleach. He will combine pure bleach with a mixture that is 20% bleach. A.) Write a system of equations to model the problem. Use p for the number of liters of pure bleach and m for the number of liters of the mixture that is 20% bleach.

B.) Solve the system. Show work, please. How many liters of pure bleach will Heath use? How many liters of the 20% mixture will he use?

To answer the question above, let p be the number of liters of pure bleach so that 10 - p be the number of liters of 20% bleach.

(a) The equation that would best represent the given above is,
p(1) + (10 - p)(0.2) = 10(0.9)
(b) Solving the equation above will give us an answer of,
p = 8.75

10 - p = 10 - 8.75 = 1.25
Thus, the answer would be 1.25L.
