If you have a negative exponent, then you have to put it in the denominator. For 3^(-2), you have to put it as
(1)/(3^2) , then you square it, so it will be
(1)/(9) .

Anything to the power of 0 is 1.

-5^(-3) is basically
(1)/(5^3), then you cube and then it is
(1)/(125)
