Samantha wants to use her savings of $1,150 to buy shirts and watches for her family. The total price of the shirts she bought was $84. The watches cost $99 each. What is the maximum number of watches that Samantha can buy with her savings? A.8 B.9 C.10 D.11

she has 1150.she used 84 for shirts. the rest may be used for watches. so this can be modeled, knowing that each watch costs 99, by the equation:
1150=99x+84 because 1150 is shirt money and watch money put together. watch money is some number times 99.
so subtract 84 from both sides.
so 1066=99x and then divide both sides by 99
so x=10.76(76repeating forever)
you cant get a fraction of a watch, so the answer is 10
