Uncle Tomś Cabin was created by Harriet Beecher Stowe who was hired by an abolionist newspaper to create a series portraying the South and slavery. Since she was hired by a abolionist newspaper the series had to be biased toward anti-slavery rather than pro-slavery. Therefore the story had to be about typical steretypes heard such as how poorly slaves were treated and the working conditions they were put in along with unfair treament. John Brown was a anti-slavery abolionist who acted violently towards others who favored slavery. This therefore caused a stereotype that everyone who believes in anti-slavery is vicious towards people who believe otherwise. The stereotypes aided in promoting the coming of war by the two sides of pro-slavery and anti-slavery not comprehending each others sides with such stories like John Brown and Uncle Tomś Cabin since not everyone lives both in the North and South to see the truth.
