An essay states a claim.
The three different parts of an essay:
Persuasive:An opinion
Descriptive:Describing something
Comparative:Compares between two things.

The purpose of the introductory paragraph in a literary analysis essay is to state the claim - choice C. The introduction will state the thesis and will explain what the essay will be about before you read it.
