5 + 2x = 8x - 4

Subtract 5 from both sides, as well as subtracting 8x from both sides.

2x-8x=-4-5

Add like terms.

-6x=-9

Divide both sides by -6.

x = 3/2, or 1 1/2

~Hope I helped!~

try to get all your like terms to the same side. for example get all your x values to the left side and all your number values to the right side.

5 + 2x = 8x - 4
2x - 8x = - 4 - 5
-6x = -9
x = -9/-6
x = 1.5 or 1 1/2

hope this helps and have a great day! :)
