Andy has two similar conical hats, Hat A and Hat B. The diameter of Hat A is 18 inches, and the diameter of Hat B is 9 inches. What is the ratio of the volume of Hat A to the volume of Hat B?

2:1
16:1
4:1
8:1

I got 2:1 but I don't think that is right. Thank you!

Answer:

8:1

Explanation:

Given that Andy has two similar conical hats.

The diameters of the two hats are 18 and 9 inches i.e.

in the ratio 2:1

We have studied that for similar figures is sides are in proportion

m:n then area will be in proportion of
m^2:n^2

and volume in the proportion
m^3:n^3

Here m =2 and n=1

Since volume is to be calculated we find that ratio would be in cube

8:1
